According to TheBottleGuide.com
Metal caps & closures are available in a variety of sizes and usually come in three colors: white, black, silver, and gold. They are the preferred closure for a variety of everyday products. In the past, metal closures served two functions, protection and preservation. They now have become an important factor in branding your products as well.
Metal Cap Materials
Most metal closures are made from either steel, aluminum, or tin and are manufactured to fit most metal or plastic containers. Plastic caps and closures have gained ground on their metal counterparts due to their flexible design and color options.
Metal Cap Liners
Selecting the liner for your metal closure is one of many of the important factors of closure selection. Some liners hold up to chemicals better then others, while other liners are better suited as moisture barriers.
Polyethylene (PE) Liners - Polyethylene liners are good for acids, alkalis, solvents, alcohols, oils household cosmetics and aqueous products.
Poly-Vinyl (PV) Liners - Poly-vinyl liners are good for chemical resistance, mild acids, alkalis, solvents, alcohols, oils and aqueous products; not recommended for active hydrocarbons or bleaches.
Foil Liners - The foil liners have good barrier properties. They are excellent for containers that contain hydro carbon type products. Work well with alcohols, ketones and other oils.
Plastisol Liners - Plastisol Liners are a popular closure for canning, hot sauces, barbecue sauces and many other food related applications. They are a unique liner in that they create a vacuum seal as product cools in the container.
